Legal Services for Non-Resident Bangladeshis

Managing property or a dispute in Bangladesh from abroad is hard. Documents go missing, relatives or developers stop responding, and it is difficult to know whom to trust. StoneGate Chamber advises Bangladeshis in the UK, Europe, Gulf, North America and elsewhere on protecting interests in Bangladesh. Many steps can be handled remotely; attendance depends on the matter.

Clear authority and independent checks

Remote instructions should identify who may act, what decisions require approval and how documents and payments will be verified. We review proposed powers of attorney and the transaction records independently rather than rely only on a relative, broker or developer’s explanation. Execution and registration requirements are assessed before documents are sent abroad.

Succession, property and continuing disputes

Inheritance rights, title transfer and the authority to collect debts or securities are not the same legal question. The appropriate documents depend on the asset, applicable personal law and dispute. We agree reporting arrangements so that an overseas client can follow important decisions, required signatures and any attendance that remains necessary.

Documents to prepare

Begin with a short non-confidential outline, parties’ names and urgent dates. After the initial checks, we agree which of the following records are needed and how to share them.

  • A non-confidential chronology, parties’ names and country of residence
  • Property deeds, khatian, mutation and relevant agreements
  • Any power of attorney, succession record or authority document
  • Notices, case papers, payment records and urgent dates

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Can I instruct you without coming to Bangladesh?

Many advisory and procedural steps can be handled remotely, subject to identity, authority and conflict checks. Some transactions or proceedings require personal attendance or particular formalities. We identify those requirements before agreeing a plan.

How do I execute a power of attorney abroad?

Requirements depend on the document, country of execution, intended use and current rules. Attestation, authentication, stamping or registration may be required. We review the proposed authority and explain the steps for the particular matter before execution.

How is inherited property dealt with?

The applicable personal or succession law, asset, family records and any dispute determine the required steps. Land title, partition, mutation and a succession certificate have different purposes. We identify the appropriate procedure rather than treat one document as sufficient for every asset.

Can an NRB buy property or invest?

The transaction, title, authority, payment route and applicable investment or foreign exchange requirements need review. We assist with Bangladesh due diligence and documentation and explain where specialist or regulatory input is required.

What if someone occupies or sells my property without authority?

Preserve the deeds, records, power of attorney, possession evidence and communications, and seek advice promptly. We assess title, authority, urgent protective options and the proper forum. Regular independent record checks can help identify problems before a transaction progresses.
